The youth summer soccer league known as Soccer Shots has made a return to Richmond Hill. Soccer Shots is an engaging children's soccer program for ages 2 through 8.
Soccer Shots has three different programs to meet the developmental needs of those athletes that are from ages 2-8.
The ‘Mini’ division is geared towards athletes that are toddlers. This division is a high-energy program that introduces fundamentals of soccer principles, such as using your feet, dribbling, and the basic rules of the game. This division is for children that are 2-3 years old.
The ‘Classic’ division for athletes that are in preschool. This division uses creative and imaginative games. These sessions focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting. This division is for ages 3-5.
The ‘Premier’ division is for school-aged athletes. This division focuses on individual skill, fitness, and sportsmanship, providing an opportunity for children to be challenged through soccer skills, fun games, and team interaction. The ‘Premier’ division is for those children in school.
Soccer Shots kicked off their entire Savannah league, which includes Richmond Hill, with their first practices being held at 9am yesterday.
The ‘Mini’ division kicked the league off by learning how to properly kick the ball with ‘small kicks’, as well as working on learning how to not touch the ball with their hands.
The 2-3 year olds also learned to kick the ball into the nets, kick their ball at targets and knock them over, as well as identifying which cones to kick to when prompted. The parents assisted the coaches in the skills and drills by having their athletes participate and sing along with the coaches.
The league will continue on Saturdays through August 3 at Richmond Hill Montessori Preschool from 9-9:30 for Mini and 9:35-10:05 for Classic division.
The Premier division practices on Friday evenings from 6:10-6:40 pm at the Montessori Preschool.
