Anddreas McKinny missed nearly all of his sophomore season due to a knee injury but he more than made up for this past season as he excelled on both sides of the ball for Bryan County.
The standout junior running back led Region 3A-DII in rushing with 1,257 yards and was one of 10 Bryan County players to earn either first or second team all-region honors. The makeup of the team was released by region officials Wednesday afternoon, according to Coach Cherard Freeman.
Mckinny had eight games of 100 or more yards rushing and the hard-nosed junior scored seven touchdowns. He also had 14 tackles as a cornerback and led the team in sacks with two. He finished with 1,308 all-purpose yards.
Joining McKinny on the first team were senior center Allen Williams, junior safety/running back Ger’bravion Collins, senior wide receiver/cornerback Mike Smith and junior lineman/ linebacker Zane Renteria. Second-team selections were seniors Trevor Lanier and E’savian Rivera, junior Nathan Long and sophomores Corey Collier and Eli Koskela.
Williams, who is playing basketball for the first time this year, anchored an offensive line that was a key factor in the Redskins averaging 219.5 yards rushing per game. Renteria played guard and defensively he led the team in tackles with 66 while scoring one touchdown on a fumble recovery against Savannah.
Collins did a little bit of everything as he had 554 yards rushing with four touchdowns while compiling 652 all-purpose yards. Smith led the team in receptions with nine for 146 yards and two touchdowns and interceptions with four. He had 31 tackles and one fumble recovery.
Collier had an excellent breakthrough season as the stocky sophomore had 46 tackles and one interception for a touchdown while playing next to Renteria. He also played guard and tackle on offense but it was his play at linebacker that made him an up-and-comer for the Redskins.
Long and Rivera played primarily on the offensive line while Lanier completed 32 of 69 passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns. Koselka, who started every game as a freshman catcher for the baseball team last spring, was a starter at fullback late in the season.
