Armstrong Atlantic State University outfielder Nathan Ward has been named the Peach Belt Conference's baseball Freshman of the Week for the second time this season, announced Tuesday by league officials.
Ward, who played baseball at Richmond Hill High School, hit .545 and slugged .909 in four games for the Pirates last week as Armstrong went 3-1. He hit his first collegiate home run in a 2-for-5 day with two RBIs against No. 4-ranked Mount Olive on Tuesday. He then went 2-for-3 with a double in Friday's 4-3 game one win over Young Harris, then had a pinch-hit RBI single in game two's 11-5 win.
Ward got a hit in all four games and drew three walks for a .583 on-base percentage. On the season, Ward is hitting .464 in 10 games for the Pirates.
This is the second PBC Freshman of the Week award this season for Ward, who also earned the honor Feb. 19.
Ward and the Pirates return to action on Friday, visiting Francis Marion for a 7 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest in Florence, S.C.
