Lady Redskins set to host 2011 Summer Slam

Bryan County High School's softball team will get some early work next week when they play host to a number of area teams in the 2011 Summer Slam at Hendrix Park.
Eight varsity and five junior varsity teams will play in the tournament, which gets under way at 1 p.m. July 12 with a JV matchup between Bryan County and Bacon County.
Varsity action begins at 4 p.m. July 13 when Bryan County faces Effingham County.
The tournament includes some of the area's top programs in addition to Bryan County, including Region 3A rival Savannah Christian, South Effingham and Effingham County.
Tattnall County, Long County, Bacon County and Jenkins round out the varsity field.
The Lady Redskins (30-10 in 2010) have advanced to the Elite Eight in three of the last four seasons and finished fourth in Class A last season. Led by 2010 Class A Player of the Year Tiffany Howard, the Lady Redskins open the 2011 regular season in August.
Admission is $4.

All-Region picks for spring sports announced
RHHS Wildcats

Richmond Hill placed several players on their respective All-Region teams in Region 2-AAAAAA for tennis and soccer after all four teams made it to their respective state tournaments this spring.

In girls’ soccer, first-team selections were Grace Kiser, Ruthie Riley, Carly Vargas and Ellie Filamonczuk. Honorable mention went to Bella Martinez. Arianna Page and Lexi Merry.

For boys’ soccer, Joseph Petrino, Agboade Sobowale, Roman Alvarez, Trever Blitchington and Cristian Marquez made first team.

For girls’ tennis, Hannah Yontz, Megan Bausch and Stephanie Harter all made the second team at singles, as did the doubles team of Bailey Lopata and Caren Bausch.

For the boys, Jackson Martin was first team singles and Alec Shermer was second team singles. Zach Sewell received honorable mention.
