Girls' basketball: Senior Jada Brown receives first college offer

Richmond Hill High School senior Jada Brown, one of the leaders of the Lady Wildcats basketball team, received her first college offer. Brown has played all over the floor for the Lady Wildcats and has shown her versatility year in and year out.

That versatility led her to being able to attend a prospect camp for Columbia International University (CIU). Upon completion of the camp, the senior playmaker earned an offer from the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) program.

“I was able to earn my offer after attending a prospect camp,” Brown said. “There were about six other girls there, and we got to do a practice day with their team. After it was over, I learned that I secured my first offer.”

Not only was it her first offer, but Brown was also able to meet with the team and the players while there, so she could get a sense of what life may be like for her, if she chose to attend the college after she graduates.

“I liked the team a lot,” Brown said. “The players were very interactive and energetic, and I liked the coaching style of the coaches that were there from the program. I think I could fit in there.”

While Brown is grateful for her first offer, she does hope that it does not end there, and that her senior year could provide even more opportunities to reach and excel at the collegiate level upon leaving Richmond Hill.

“I do hope to get more offers,” Brown said. “I am really looking for a school that I know I will fit in, both in and out of sports.

“I want it to be somewhere that I know I will have fun, no matter what. As far as the basketball side of things, I want to go somewhere with good team chemistry, and also have good competition.”

As she heads into her senior season without fellow teammates MaKiyah Matthews, who went on to Division-II Augusta University, and Lexi Oge, who went to Division-III Randolph College, Brown knows that the team will look different, but that does not change their goals for the year.

“I am feeling really good about this season,” Brown said. “We have a couple of things to work on as a team, but I believe we will do well this year.”

Brown is set to have another great year for the program, as she is a returning captain from last year’s squad that finished at 17-10 on the year. Head coach Sarah Jones has stated on multiple occasions that Brown is a great leader for the team and the program, and she looks to prove just that to her opponents and possible colleges that may want to offer her in the future.

The Lady Wildcats will open their season on the road on November 15 against Statesboro High School. Tip-off will be at 6pm. Their first home game will be on November 16 at 4pm, as they take on Glynn Academy.
