HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD – FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports soccer and golf. The first FootGolf tournament on an Army installation will occur here at 9 a.m. Friday.
FootGolf is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball on shortened holes on golf courses and includes 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. This sport is growing in popularity. FootGolf is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG). The American FootGolf League (AFGL) is the exclusive member of the FIFG and governing body for the sport of FootGolf in the United States.
The Hunter Army Airfield Golf Course is the only golf course in Chatham County that offers FootGolf.
The rules for FootGolf were officially adopted in The Netherlands in 2009. In July 2014, there were only ten golf courses in the United States that offered FootGolf. Today, FootGolf is played on more than 400 golf courses nationwide.
News media representatives who wish to cover this vanguard event must contact the Hunter Army Airfield Public Affairs Office NLT 4 p.m. Thursday so your access onto the installation can be arranged. Gate time will be 8:15 a.m. Friday (Montgomery Gate).
