Football: Wildcats win scrimmage over Jenkins
football

The Jenkins High School Warriors football team made the short drive over to Richmond Hill High School for their scrimmage game on Friday night.

The 6A Wildcats would send the 3A Warriors back to Savannah with a 13-3 loss, but not one that would show up on the win-loss column for the year.

Both programs would only send their varsity out to compete for the first half of the game, allowing for the younger athletes to finish the second half.

Richmond Hill would draw first blood, as seniors Kirk Scott and Caleb Easterling would connect on a touchdown pass with 5:27 to go in the first quarter. The PAT attempt would be no good.

Two plays prior, Scott kept it himself and nearly scored a touchdown—without his helmet. Due to his helmet coming off, he sat out a play. During that play, Gunner Mobley threw a touchdown to Easterling, however, it was negated by a penalty.

On the ensuing drive, the Warriors drove all the way down to the two-yard line with their heavy ground game.

As the ball carrier attempted to reach the ball across the plane of the goal line, he lost control of the football and fumbled. Richmond Hill would recover the fumble for a touchback.

The first quarter would come to a close, with the Wildcats ahead 6-0. On the first play of the quarter, Scott would rip off a big run to get the Wildcats in a great scoring position.

A couple of plays later, Amire Miller would punch it into the endzone. The PAT would be good on this drive, as the Wildcats held a 13-0 lead with 8:45 to go in the half.

Jenkins made another deep push for a score, but Derrick Lum came up with a big time sack and just the right moment.

Jenkins would finally be able to put some points on the board with just twenty-three seconds left in the half as they kicked a field goal to end the game 13-3.
