The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association brought their showcase to Richmond Hill on Sunday. The camp took place at Devaul-Henderson, starting at 9am for the offensive and defensive linemen, 10am for quarterbacks, linebackers and tailbacks, and 11am for wideouts and defensive backs.
Athletes began their respective showcases by getting their verified measurements after completing their sign-in and registration. Each camper got their wingspan measured, their height charted, as well as their body weight verified.
Afterwards, the athletes did a dynamic warmup stretch to get their bodies ready for the drills for the day. After their stretching ended, the athletes got ready to get their timed runs completed, as they ran their forty yard dashes. Each camper would perform two timed runs that would be verified by a laser timed device.
Once the athletes completed their two verified runs, they would go outside the field to have their vertical jump measured. Each athlete would take off their shoes and jump on a mat that measured the height that they could jump while flat-footed on the ground.
Upon completing their vertical jump measurement, the athletes would go into their position specific drills, where they would learn proper techniques and even some tips from high school coaches in the area. Coaches came from Windsor Forest High School in Savannah, South Effingham High School in Effingham and Calvary Day School in Savannah.
At the end of their position specific drills, the campers would then compete in one-on-one drills to show how their training in their previous group sessions would translate to a game-like situation. The talent would be on full display, as players, coaches and fans were fully involved in the competition.
“The camp had a great environment, with great people and great coaches,” camp participant Jr Rowland said. “I am glad that I was invited to be out and compete.”
