Football: Richmond Hill 13, Colquitt County 31
football

The Wildcats made the trip to Moultrie, Georgia, to take on Colquitt County High School in hopes of winning their last region game and last game of the season.

However, Colquitt County ultimately won 31-13 on the night. Both teams would remain scoreless in the first, but the Packers opened the scoring in the second quarter with two touchdowns.

The Packers took a 14-0 lead into halftime. In the third, Richmond Hill finally got on the board with their first of two touchdowns on the evening, both coming from senior tailback Joshua Troupe.

The Wildcats did outscore the Packers 6-3 in the third, but it would be the only quarter of the game that they would outscore Colquitt County. The fourth quarter was dominated by Colquitt again, as they scored 14 more points. Troupe would add his second and last rushing touchdown of the evening in the fourth as well.

For his efforts, Troupe earned the Plantation Lumber & Hardware Player of the Game award. Like a true bell-cow tailback, Troupe carried the ball 31 times in the game. He amassed 260 yards, a career high, and also averaged an astonishing 8.3 yards per carry with his two touchdowns.

Senior quarterback Kirk Scott went 11 for 15 on passes in the game, throwing for 110 yards. For his completions, senior Caleb Easterling caught six of the eleven completions and he amassed 36 yards in the night for 6 yards per catch. The other five passes were caught by junior Nick Swain. He would go for the remaining 74 yards from Scott on the night. Junior Amire Miller carried the ball 9 times against Colquitt, and he gained 37 yards rushing.

Lee Johnson would finish with 9 total tackles, with one of them being for a loss. Bauman would retake the lead in total tackles on the season by one tackle over Johnson. Bauman now has 95 total tackles and Johnson has 94. Junior Walter Pugh would add three tackles from his linebacker spot, as well as an interception.

On special teams, Cannon Kuriya went 1 for 2 on point after touchdown attempts (PAT’s) and 0 for 1 on field goal attempts.

After getting off to a hot start on the year by opening the season with six straight wins, Richmond Hill dropped three of their final four games to finish the season at 7-3 on the year. With that finish, the Wildcats would finish in fifth place in Region 1-6A standings, and ultimately will leave them out of the playoffs for the 2024 campaign.

The 2025 football season will look much more different for the Wildcats, as they will not only graduate most of their starters on both sides of the ball, but will play their home games at their brand-new high school campus.
