Flag football returns to Richmond Hill for another season
football

Richmond Hill’s NFL-sponsored Flag Football league is set to begin on April 6, running for eight weeks. The league is aimed for young athletes that are interested in playing the game of football that may not be ready for playing tackle football, as well as those looking to learn more about football or enjoy themselves recreationally.

All games and practices will be held at Devaul-Henderson Park once again this spring, with both games and practices will be held on their turf fields.

Athletes that will play in the league will be broken up into grade levels. Pre-K, Kindergarten and first grade boys and girls will play together on the same teams. Second and third grade athletes will be on the same team together. Fourth and fifth grade come together to create the first of two Madden Division teams. Sixth, seventh and eighth grade athletes will round out the remaining Madden Division grade levels.

The games will be held on Sundays from 9am-6pm. There will be playoff games for those participating in the “Madden Leagues”, which will comprise athletes that are in the fourth grade up until the eighth grade. The top four teams will compete in the playoffs until a team comes out as the champion of each league. While the Pre-K through third grade divisions will not have playoffs, their seasons will still extend to the last week of the season.

The participating athletes will be wearing a team uniform that is assigned to them, that will be of one of the NFL’s thirty-two teams in the National Football League, as well as an official NFL Flag Football League official belt/flag while they are playing in their games. Athletes must also wear mouthpieces to help prevent any head injuries.

For the last two seasons in a row, the middle school division, which is one of the Madden Divisions, was won by Coach Darrell Thomas–formerly of Richmond Hill–and his team.
