The RHHS Wildcats Baseball Team swept region opponent Camden County, 12-1 and 20-10, Friday night, March 28, to take a firm grip on second place in a tough region in GHSA Class 1-6A.
The ‘Cats hung six runs on Camden in the 6th inning in game #1 Friday, with Lee Johnson providing the big blow to Camden with a towering bomb over the left-centerfield fence, ending the contest in only six innings. Johnson, the James Madison University football commit, continues to lead the Wildcats both at the plate and in center field. Senior left-handed pitcher Aiden Pluff pitched a gem and only gave up one run in six complete innings, in game #1.
Game #2, Friday night, ended up being a slugfest. The Wildcats of Richmond Hill scored in all six innings, while allowing the Wildcats of Camden to score all ten of their runs in the 4th inning. The ‘Cats of Richmond Hill ended the shortened six-inning game, winning by a field goal, and a touchdown, 20-10.
Next week, during Spring Break for Bryan County Schools, the (15-7 overall, 8-4, 1-6A) Richmond Hill Wildcats travel to Florida to play the St. John's Country Day Spartans in Orange Park, Fla. on Wednesday, (April 2), then the Bishop Kennedy Crusader's, in Jacksonville, Fla., Thursday, (April 3), and then finally, Friday, (April 4), the Providence School Stallions, also in Jacksonville.
