People experience all types of phobias, things that they have a fear of.
Some of the most common can include arachnophobia (the fear of spiders), acrophobia (the fear of heights), and claustrophobia (the fear of confined spaces), just to name a few. These fears can limit your daily life and may cause severe anxiety and depression, but, for the most part, are not life threatening.
Most people are able to live normal lives with some type of phobia, and, in most cases, they will always have them.
There are a few things that people are afraid of that they don’t need to be afraid of.
One of them is death.
The scripture tells us in Hebrews 9:27 that every one of us is destined to pass on from this life here on earth. The scripture also gives us assurance that if we choose to follow God’s Son Jesus Christ, then we have eternal life in this wonderful place God has prepared for us. Listen to what Jesus says in John 14:1-3 to reassure us. “Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You believe in God; believe also in me.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”
Another one is the fear of being alone. Yes, it is true that we can have those close to us pass away, and it may seem we are alone.
There are precious promises that remind us of God’s constant presence. One of these is found in Joshua 1:9 and is what I call my favorite verse in scripture.
It says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Another verse which is repeated in the Old and New Testaments tells us that God Himself says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you”.
So, if you are a follower of Jesus, trust in the Lord each day and don’t let fear rule your life.
If you are not a follower of Jesus, the good news is that you can be.
