Just how strong is your love for God?
Most people would proclaim loud and long that their love for God is strong and firm. In fact, some might even be insulted at such a question, but it is a question that should be asked. Saying that one’s love is strong is the way ones love for God ought to be. There should never be any question of one’s love for God, and a Christian should never give anyone reason to wonder about their love for God.
While discussing the actions of people in one of His sermons, Jesus said this, “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (Matthew 7:16-20). The idea expressed here has to do with the actions of individuals and what is portrayed to others by those actions. So much is said by one’s actions. Jesus wanted His disciples to know how they were to look to those in the world. In fact in this same sermon Jesus told of the kind of example His followers should be.
“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world.
A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matt. 5:13-16).
If one is a follower of God their light should be shinning brightly for all the world to see God in their life.
Just how strong is your love for God when it comes to worshiping God? Of the over eighty percent of Americans who say they believe in God, less than forty seven percent attend any kind of worship service on a regular basis. Most everyone today leads a busy life. There are always places to go, and things to do. God has blessed mankind with all of these things in which one can be engaged in and enjoy. God allows man the freedom of making choices as to how to live and how to use the many blessings that He has given. If a person finds themselves allowing these blessings to come between them and worshiping God, what does this say of their love for God? It matters not how strong one proclaims their love to be, their “fruits” show a different message. How can one think they are strong lights for the Lord when their “globe” is cold and dark? Some may not know what a “globe” is in today’s word. The globe is the glass that surrounds the flame in a lamp. If it is dirty and cold not much light will shine from the lamp. It must be clean and clear, just as a Christian life should be.
One’s love for God needs to be strong, and in a continual process of getting stronger. Staying away when the saints meet will not help this to happen. Your love for God will begin to diminish and fade if you do not work to help it grow and become stronger. One must study God’s word and worship Him as He has directed.
