Pastor Jim Jackson
Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church
I’ve seen and been part of many Vacation Bible Schools.
If I’ve witnessed one equal to what was done here this week (May 30—June 2), I cannot recall a better one. It spoke of thorough preparation, excellent materials, and hard work done by our leaders. The children entrusted us by their parents deserve nothing less than our best, and they got in in VBS 2023 here at Richmond Hill.
As you know, I’m something of a dreamer. Let me tell you of one dream. It began when I heard that some churches struggling with participation in Sunday School, have sponsored similar activity for children one day during the week, usually in the morning. That would have to be when school is out for the summer. Otherwise it could be done after school or even Saturday. Should we dare? I’m measuring interest among parents, and, of course, we cannot do it without volunteer workers.
I have discovered that many children know very little about the Bible or God, even Jesus.
That’s such a tragedy. Where are children to learn about God and his love, where about loving one’s neighbor, and issues of good and bad behavior? Is it a possible dream? Let’s think and pray about it.
As your are aware now, I was out of the pulpit for a while. You were well provided for by our guest speakers.
My absence was due to my wife Linda’s knee surgery, and I’m her primary care person.
Hopefully I got back Tuesday, June 27 (this was written in advance.) Of course I know we can depend upon your support and prayers. And for that, we are deeply grateful.
