With warmer weather comes beautiful flowers and pretty green grass. Also, along with the good stuff comes weeds that can take over a yard or garden area if not controlled.
The other day I was admiring how beautiful the flowers were in my yard when I looked down and noticed how quickly the weeds were growing around them. Well, I spent quite a bit of time pulling them out and realized that this must be a regular practice. This reminded me that although the Christian life is full of beauty and wonderful things, there are times when we have to rid our lives of things that hinder our spiritual growth and our witness (like weeds).
Colossians 3:5 puts it this way: “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.” The author continues on in verse 8 by saying, “But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.”
Just like a gardener inspects a yard or garden for weeds, let us examine our lives and get rid of anything that hinders us from being all God wants us to be.
