Dr. Lawrence Butler The Bridge Church, Pembroke

There are so many wonderful chapters in the Bible that it is difficult to choose one over the other as far as importance. One reference I would like to talk about today is John 14. The first few verse have been quoted often at church services and funerals, but there are many other critically important teachings presented by Christ found in Chapter 14. Please pay attention to the following verse.

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father” (John 14:12).

Think of the great works that Jesus performed while on earth. In a previous article I presented two verses from the Gospel of Mark.

Please read them again. “And all the city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him” (Marl 1:33-34). There are 37 miracles performed by Christ recorded in the Four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John). There are healings, providing miracles of supply (like feeding the multitudes), casting out demons and the forgiving of sins.

Now realize that Jesus is saying future believers would do the same things He did. Not only were they going to do the same works, but greater things because He was limited to one location during His incarnation. Now, seated at the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19), He sent the Holy Spirit to work in the believers and continue His ministry all around the world. Believers are even now busy performing the wondrous works of Jesus as they are used by the Holy Spirit.

The church should be seeing great miracles occurring. Well, guess what, we are! The sick are being healed, sinners are being delivered from sin as repentance and confession occur, they are delivered from the power of demons, and supplies (food, clothes, medicine, money) are reaching people in need. All of the same works that Christ Jesus performed are still happening in our world today. What I am saying? There is a great world-wide harvest of souls happening right now. Don’t miss it. Missionary Gail Myers was confined to bed with crippling arthritis, only to be raised up by God and sent to Mexico to win souls for some 40 years.

Awake, see the wonderful works of the Holy Spirit and get involved. If you need healing, commit your life to the Lord and see what God will do for you and through you.
