Counting your blessings
pastor corner

Several years ago, there was a gospel group called “Teddy Huffman and the Gems” who sang a song “Blessings Outnumber My Troubles”. Before the song started, Teddy would encourage his audience to go home and get out a piece of paper drawing a line down the middle. On one side they were to list their blessings and then on the other side their troubles. Then he said the words that went with the song, “I guarantee your blessings will outnumber your troubles every time”.

This is so true for the follower of Jesus Christ. When we think of eternal blessings, we can be reminded that there will be no troubles in heaven. When we compare our earthly blessings against our earthly troubles, we still will end up with more blessings.

David indicates in Psalm 40:5 that God’s blessings are too numerous to count. He says, “Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, and things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare”.

During this Thanksgiving season, we are reminded of all of our blessings that we need to be thankful for. The thoughts around this time of year will help us to be able to add to the already long list of blessings. So, start your list and with each one give God praise and thanks.
