Joseph E. Johnson

Palm Bay

Joseph E. Johnson, 52, died Sunday, Nov. 11, in Palm Bay. He was born in Albany, N.Y., and came to Brevard County in 1985 from Savannah, Ga. Joe was a surgical technologist at Holmes Regional Medical Center for 22 years.

Joe is survived by his children Glenn and Molly Johnson; sisters, Sybil Dudley, Joyce Clark and Susan Shindiwolf; his nieces and nephews and his Health First family.

Memorial service will be Friday, Nov. 16th at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Melbourne. Anyone planning expressions of sympathy is asked to consider Joe Johnson Surgical Tech Foundation, c/o Brevard Heart Foundation, P.O. Box 2151, Melbourne, FL 32902. Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home in Melbourne is serving the family.

Audrey Kitchens Marshall

Pembroke

Mrs. Audrey Kitchens Marshall, age 76,  died Friday, Nov. 9 at her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Marshall owned and operated Audrey’s Beauty Salon for over 30 years and later worked in customer service at Pembroke Telephone Company for over 20 years. She was very dedicated to her community having served in numerous civic organizations including the Pembroke Lions Club, where she was twice named Lion of the Year and a Melvin Jones Fellow; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 164 where she held several offices over the years; the Old Pembroke City Jail Restoration Committee, Light Up Pembroke, which is responsible for the beautiful Christmas decorations found in Pembroke; and was a loyal member of the North Bryan County Cancer Support Group.

Survivors include her husband Billy Gene Marshall of Pembroke, son and daughter-in-law David L. and Faye W. Owens of Pembroke, mother Vivian Stewart Gaines of Pembroke, two sisters and brothers-in-law Lathia and Herbert Owens of Pembroke and Wanda and Larry Morgan of Daisy, granddaughter Julie Owens Boatright and her husband Kevin and grandson Matthew D. Owens, great-granddaughter Sarah Morgan Boatright, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Monday at the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with Elder Spencer Moore officiating, assisted by Rev. Ricky Bishop. Pallbearers were Herbert D. Owens, Michael S. Owens, Paul S. Owens, Larry W. Morgan, Andrew G. Morgan and Chris D. Owens. Honorary pallbearers included the members of the Lyons Club and North Bryan Cancer Support Group. Burial was in Northside Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pembroke Lyons Club or the American Cancer Society. Flanders Morrison Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Roy A. Steel

Dunwoody

Mr. Roy A. Steel, of Dunwoody, died Nov. 7. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked for Southern Bell for 35 years. He started as an engineer and progressed to building and maintaining commercial real estate. At the end of his career, he was assistant vice president of Southern Bell.

Mr. Steel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernice R. "Tootie" Steel, daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Lee and Kenneth Ergle, Richmond Hill; son, Roy A. Steel Jr., Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, George J. and Carole Steel, Alpharetta; sister, Mary Landrum, Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Brian and Nick Ergle and Rachel, Matthew and Nicole Steel.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 10 at Sandy Springs Chapel with Rev. Larry Burgess officiating. Interment was held in the Arlington Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX, 75284-0692.
