Richmond Hill High School senior Haley Keller has been named the school’s 2020 PAGE STAR Student and is also the System Winner for Bryan County. She will compete later in March with other school system winners for Region recognition. Haley, the daughter of Kimberly Halverson and Chuck Keller, earned the recognition for academic achievement and performance on the SAT. She selected Sonya Compton, AP English/Language and Composition teacher at Richmond Hill High School, as her STAR Teacher.
The Richmond Hill Lions Club is the local STAR program sponsor. Boyd Walden, President, and Donna Hoke, Scholarship Committee Chairperson, announced the honor and presented Haley with a scholarship check. "We are very proud of Haley and Ms. Compton and the academic excellence they exemplify at Richmond Hill High School," said Walden.
The Richmond Hill Lions Club provides two scholarships each year for local graduating seniors. One scholarship is for the Star Student and the other is selected through an application and interview process. Applications for the second scholarship are available from the high school guidance counselor.
The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program is sponsored, administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and the PAGE Foundation. Since its creation, the STAR program has honored nearly 27,500 students and the teachers they have selected as the most influential to their academic achievement. High school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average to qualify for STAR nomination.
