James Anthony Dietrich of Fort Stewart was arrested Aug. 3 after driving his Ford Explorer into the side of Full Gospel Baptist Church on Highway 17 in Richmond Hill.
After preliminary breath tests showed no signs of alcohol in the man’s system, Dietrich admitted he had smoked spice, according to a Bryan County Sheriff’s Department report.
Dietrich told deputies he “could not find the brake pedal” when he came to the stop sign on Belfast Keller Road.
He then drove across four lanes of traffic and hit some electrical wires before hitting the church.
