On Monday, the City of Richmond Hill commemorated Veterans Day at J.F. Gregory Park. This year’s observance started with an invocation from Rev. Steve Lane of New Beginnings Community Church, followed by a posting of the colors by 2-7 Infantry Battalion Color Guard.
The guest speaker was LTC Sean M. Hollars, Battalion Commander (2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment).
Special guests included State Representative Ron Stephens, Sally Rejas of American Legion Post 27, and Chris Shipman of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7331.
In addition, the Traveling Vietnam Wall is in J.F. Gregory Park until Wednesday, November 13.
The Traveling Vietnam Wall stands 8 feet tall and spans 360 feet, creating a profound experience that educates and honors those who served. The tribute also includes the Cost of Freedom Tribute, which honors service members who served in conflicts such as WWI, WWII, Korea, Desert Storm, Somalia, 9/11, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
"Remembering and respecting our veterans for the selfless sacrifices they have made is one of our greatest responsibilities as citizens," said Mayor Russ Carpenter. "This tribute allows residents an opportunity to pay respects to our nation's fallen heroes and appreciate all those who have answered the call to service."
