Richmond Hill High School was placed on lockdown for about 20 minutes Thursday morning.
Bryan County Schools’ automated text and voice messaging system said it was in response to “a medical emergency in the east parking lot” and that “no other students were at risk.”
The Richmond Hill Police Department reported that police, fire and EMS responded to the high school “due to a young lady who was having some emotional difficulties.” Police said the girl and her mother “were involved in a verbal altercation in the parking lot.”
Superintendent Paul Brooksher said the lockdown was done as a precaution.
“Because the Richmond Hill High School campus is so large, students often go outside to transition between classes,” he said. “Ms. McNeal (the principal) did not want students outside interfering with emergency personnel during this time.”
