Children across Coastal Georgia benefit every day from the education and care provided by Head Start. The backbone of the Head Start program is the caring women and men who serve as teachers and aides. The Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority (CGACAA) is inviting interested, qualified candidates to apply to join the Head Start team.
“Becoming a Head Start teacher or assistant teacher is an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of some of the area’s most vulnerable children,” said Tres Hamilton, chief executive officer of CGACAA. “We are excited to welcome people who share our commitment to the children of Coastal Georgia.”
Each year, Head Start in Coastal Georgia serves more than 714 children aged three to five across Bryan, Camden, Evans, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Tattnall and Wayne counties. Head Start is a federally funded program that provides an enriched educational environment that fosters learning, promotes a positive attitude about school, and helps each child reach their maximum potential. The program also provides nutritious meals, health services and transportation.
Head Start serves preschool children from low-income, foster and homeless families. The ideal candidate for a Head Start teaching position will have an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent from a two-year or technical college. Experience working in a preschool setting is preferred. Candidates for the Head Start assistant teacher positions will possess a minimum of a Childhood Development Associate Credential (CDA) with the preschool endorsement or a higher credential in Early Childhood Education of Early Childhood Development or an equivalent degree in a field of study related to the position.
