Early voting for the November 5 general election began this Tuesday, October 15 at 8 a.m. at the Harm Community Center in Pembroke and Richmond Hill’s Recreation Complex.
Early voting will be held October 15-November 1 from Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Saturday voting is offered on October 19 and 26, from 8am to 5 pm.
Most local and statewide candidates in Bryan County are running unopposed, although all Georgia voters will get to vote on two proposed state constitutional amendments and a referendum on their ballots. All three ballot questions concern taxes.
Constitutional Amendment 1
“Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to authorize the General Assembly to provide by general law for a state-wide homestead exemption that serves to limit increases in the assessed value of homesteads, but which any county, consolidated government, municipality, or local school system may opt out of upon the completion of certain procedures?”
Constitutional Amendment 2
“Shall the Constitution of Georgia be amended so as to provide for the Georgia Tax Court to be vested with the judicial power of the state and to have venue, judges, and jurisdiction concurrent with superior courts?”
Statewide referendum
“Do you approve the Act that increases an exemption from property tax for all tangible personal property from $7,500 to $20,000?”
For Georgia’s 1st U.S. Congressional House seat, incumbent Buddy Carter faces a challenge by Patti Hewitt.
Polling precincts will be open November 5 from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. on general election day.
