EFFINGHAM COUNTY -- A woman was killed after a multi-vehicle crash in Bloomindale on April 3. The victim has been identified as Carly Holubik, 32, of Richmond Hill.

Deputies responded to the crash on Hwy. 80 near the intersection of Hwy. 17 in Bloomingdale just after 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Preliminary information from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit indicates five vehicles were involved, four commercial vehicles and one sedan. Deputies with the Traffic Unit began investigating and determined that four of the involved vehicles were stopped at a traffic light when a fully loaded concrete truck struck the rear of the small sedan, causing a chain reaction of collisions.

Holubik was a special education teacher at South Effingham Middle School.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Mrs. Carly Holubik, a dedicated eighth-grade teacher who spent the last three years serving the students and staff of South Effingham Middle School and Guyton Elementary Schools STARS Staff,” said Effingham County Superintendent Yancy Ford in a statement.

“She was a valued educator, a loving mother and a cherished member of our ECSD family. Her impact on the lives of those around her will not be forgotten,” Ford’s statement continued. “We ask our community to join us in lifting her husband, sons, extended family, students and the entire SEMS faculty and staff in prayer during this difficult time."

The ECSO investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit at 912-754-3449.
