To enhance community readiness, Bryan County Emergency Management Agency (BEMA) has joined forces with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) to promote Severe Weather Preparedness Week (February 3–7, 2025). This annual campaign aims to empower residents to take proactive steps to safeguard themselves, their families, and their property.
“Severe weather doesn’t wait for a convenient time — be prepared, stay informed, and protect what matters most,” said Bryan County EMA Director Alli Padget. “This week is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of severe weather and help residents understand how to prepare before, during, and after these events. It’s about building emergency plans, creating kits, and staying informed so we can reduce risks and strengthen our community’s resilience.”
Each day of the week will focus on a specific aspect of severe weather preparedness:
• Monday, Feb. 5: Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio Day
• Tuesday, Feb. 6: Thunderstorm Safety
• Wednesday, Feb. 7: Tornado Safety and Prepare- Athon!
• Thursday, Feb. 8: Lightning Safety
• Friday, Feb. 9: Flood Safety
On Wednesday, February 7, residents, schools, and businesses are encouraged to participate in Ready Georgia’s PrepareAthon! for Tornado Safety, featuring a statewide tornado drill at 9 a.m.
