Matter of Record

• Deputy responds to the Post Office at 8745 US-280 in response to an unruly customer. The complainant told the deputy that she was helping the customer with a package that he wanted shipped.

The complainant said that she initially informed him that he would need to take the package; to which the customer became irritated and replied that the Post Office should tape the package for him. The customer then left the Post Office and came back with the package taped up. The complainant advised that she then had the shipping options available displayed on the check-out screen. The customer selected the cheapest option and the complainant then took the products dimensions for the shipping information, which changed the price. She then stated that the customer then began “ranting and raving” and causing a scene, at which point she called for law enforcement. Deputies then spoke to the customer, who said that he believed that he was being discriminated against due to the price changing. The customer explained that the price displayed prior to her taking measurements was cheaper than after she took the measurements and he believes the cause for the price change was due to discrimination. The customer was advised by the Postmaster the process for reporting discrimination through the United States Postal Service.

He then made a second call at approximately 3:32 p.m., but still has yet to receive a response.
