The suspect involved in a high-speed police chase on Hwy 144 towards Harris Trail Road was confirmed dead at the scene, according to Bryan County Sheriff’s Office PIO Candace Hunnicutt.

At around 5:30 p.m, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white vehicle speeding near Sterling Curve on Hwy 144, but the suspect continued to elude the police, passing several cars and crossing double yellow lines at dangerous speeds.

However, the suspect got into an accident with another vehicle on Richmond Hill’s Harris Trail Road close to Belfast River Road, hitting a tree and sparking a fire which engulfed the two vehicles.

The suspect died on scene from injuries sustained at the crash; the other driver was sent to Savannah’s Memorial Hospital with non-fatal injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating the incident.
