12U Wildcats win state GRPA basketball title

The South Bryan County Recreation Department U12 All-Star Wildcat boys recently won the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state basketball championship, reportedly the first time in 20 years an SBCR team has won a state GRPA basketball title.

The Wildcats posted wins over Douglas County and Ware County, then went undefeated in the Elite Eight and downed Hapeville with a 74-67 win for the state title.

The includes Brett Mock, Tyson Vozar, Aiden Broome, Thomas Fanning, Shane Tucker, Kelin Hunter, Draylen Mitchell, Isaiah Fuller, Syre Hopkins and Xavier Williams.

Joel Mock and Derrick Mitchell are coaches.

Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, it does. Bryan County’s boys, playing as a No. 3 seed, earned their first state playoff win in basketball since 1998 last Wednesday with a resounding 73-45 win at No. 1 seed Montgomery County.
