Pembroke Lions Club President Bill Anderson recently presented a Melvin Jones Foundation award to Lion Laverne Scott.
Scott was chosen for her devotion and dedication to Lionism and her community.
Melvin Jones founded the Lions Club in 1917 to use the talents of a group of businessmen to work in improving their communities.
In 1925, the Lions Club accepted Helen Keller’s challenge to become “knights of the blind.”
The Pembroke club’s focus includes sight programs and services, including vision screenings, eyeglasses and eyeglass recycling.
