Last month the descendants of Pembroke's first mayor, John Bacon and his wife Elizabeth Canady Bacon gathered at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center for their 10th Annual Bacon Family Reunion.

The pot luck meal brought more than 75 descendants together to enjoy chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, banana pudding, ice cream cones and other homemade favorites.
